I osé Luis Cortés (El Tosco). Renowned flutist, arranger, composer and music producer, whose musical career has contributed to the development of Cuban music and culture. Forerunner of ¨la timba¨, he has great musical successes. Teacher and creator of the "new school" of singers and flutists of Cuban popular music. He was born in Villa Clara, on October 5, 1951, from his childhood he showed unusual aptitude for music and dance.
Forerunner of the ¨timba¨ movement, teacher of popular musicians and singers. Today he is one of the great Cuban artists who has contributed to the development of music and national culture. n 1988 he founded, with other talented musicians, the Nueva Generación NG La Banda orchestra. In almost 20 years of work, his arrangements for the brass section are significant, identified by specialized critics as the metals of terror and the creation of his own sonority: the Cuban Timba. It has more than 40 award-winning record productions and is favored by critics. Cataloged as V.I.P author of the General Society of Spanish Authors (S.G.A.E.), he has been the director of different shows of that institution, highlighting the one named "Between Bárbara and Changó", with Rosario Flores and the tribute to Nicolás Guillén.
He is the musical director, orchestrator and arranger of the Adolfo Guzmán Cuban music contest, musical director of different television programs such as: "Para not leaving home", as well as musical director and music director for various Japanese, French and Cuban films. . His music has been of interest to film directors and writers in Cuba and in several countries in America, Europe and Asia, taking this phenomenon as a basis to carry out his works. The Cuban film "Entre cyclones" by director Enrique Molina and the telenovela ("Perro amor" from Colombia) stand out.
His work has allowed him to be named "Illustrious Son of Villa Clara", his hometown, as well as receive the key and insignia of other cities. He also had a special edition in the newspaper Tribuna de La Habana. He has an intense international career that includes presentations on the most demanding stages of the world of jazz and popular dance music in more than 55 countries.
